Pupils learn through Myst game

Link: Pupils learn through Myst game.

Learning the game of life via one of the best-selling PC computer game series ever.

This seems an interesting idea.  I assume the right games would have to be picked - playing Grand Theif Auto wouldn't really create the right impression. :) I have used Sim City in school with the children before when talking about simulations.  I might see if I can get hold of this game and try it out.

A 20-year-old man is arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after an accident in Wirral.

My cousin was the unfortunate person that died in this crash. Not a happy day.

Alien Camels?!?

Now I'm much more mobile I've been looking around for a way to synchronise all my email into one place so that I'm able to access from wherever I am.   Previously I'd set up my own domain and had any email forwarded to whichever address I knew I was going to check, hotmail, gmail or Thunderbird on my home computer.

However this was starting to prove problematic, particularly now I need to be able to access it from my PDA as well.  I am unable to access webmail providers such as hotmail and gmail from my workplace and if I had downloaded the mail to my home computer using Thunderbird it was difficult to access it again at work or on my PDA.

After a bit of research though I think I may have found the solution: moving away from the old style POP3 mailboxes to IMAP.  Basically this means that my mail stays on one server and I can access it anytime from anyplace I want.  This allows me to read new mail on my home computer and have it show up on my PDA as well - marked as already read and viceversa.  If I delete a mail on my PDA it will be deleted from my home computer when I next access it etc.

I looked at a number of different providers, but ended up plucking for a free trial at aliencamel.com.  They seem to offer a superb deal which with excellent spam and anti-virus protection with is really something not to be sniffed at!  They also offer webmail should the need arise to access it that way.

One of the anti-virus features include scanning both inbound and outbound messages with two leading virus engines for maximum protection.  The spam prevention features include whitlelists and blacklists, Bayesian learning filters and pending email advisories their own patented approach for managing emails from unknown senders and eliminating false positives.

I'll let you know how I get on...

First Post

Well here it is.

I have finally got around to setting up a weblog.  It's taken me long enough.  I've tried setting up one before (using WordPress) but just never got around to sorting out all the little problems I encountered.  So I have opted for a ready set up one.

What I'm I going to put on here?  Well who knows.  Whatever really takes my fancy each time I blog.  Feel free to add TrackBacks etc - it'll show that I'm not just doing this for my own piece of mind.  As it's the summer holidays at the moment (I'm a primary school teacher if you didn't know) I'll probably be blogging a lot more, but then maybe I won't as I'll be out and about enjoying the good weather.  Hopefully!

Later I will be placing a big online food order with Tesco for 13 of us that are all going away later this holiday.  Not looking forward to working out what we'll need for the week away.  It's going to be over 100 biscuits etc so that we can have one each day!  How much milk? How many boxes of cereal.  Too much to think about!
