HLTA Discussion Forum
After mentioning a Teaching Assistants Forum that I came across the other day I've now found another one. This forum is specifically for HLTA's, but the discussion ranges from what how to become a HLTA to questions and answers to generally feel good chat. The site is very active always seems to have members online who who are willing to share information and answer questions based on their experience. Don't think because you're not a TA you can't join either - they were very welcoming to me as a teacher.

Hi Liz,
I wouldn't imagine so - I suggest you contact your union rep though to find out for sure. Hope this helps. Andrew

Hi all,
I found out on Thursday that HLTAs are not generally covered by school insurance when taking PE lessons. Unqualified teachers (paid on the unqualified scale) are insured if they are employed for their specialist skills. E.g a dance teacher conducting a workshop.
Also, I find it interesting that TAs are not insured to carry out break duties and I know a lot of schools that use a teacher and a TA at break.

I have just started a blog for the forum to pull together all the resources from the forum in an easier to find format.
